Woodmen Trail is about 2.5 miles of smooth concrete. The trail runs east/west between Woodmen Rd and Briargate Blvd, from just shy of Austin Bluffs Pkwy in the east to just past Union Blvd in the west. The trail transitions into Skyline Trail near Briargate & Union Blvd. There are a couple neighborhood street crossing, and more notable road crossings at Union (use light at Briargate Blvd) Rangewood (crosswalk, but vehicles often fail to yield) & Lexington Dr (signalized pedestrian crossing). Woodmen Trail follows a powerline corridor. This trail is considered moderate due to rolling hills which have significant elevation gain and loss. The trail is popular for locals that live in the area, it is stroller friendly and there are a few benches along the trail.
This trail is managed by City of Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services: (719) 385-5940. For more info visit coloradosprings.gov/UrbanTrails.
Connections: A dirt social trail connects to Cottonwood Creek Trail near Woodmen Rd and Austin Bluffs Blvd. There are several neighborhood access points along the trail. Woodmen Trail feeds into the Briargate Trail heading north (not marked, trails intersect near Yellowwood Dr). At Briargate Blvd the trail transitions into Skyline Trail and shifts north.
Future Plans: The trail seek to link neighborhoods and recreational areas, resolve roadway crossing conflicts, and fill gaps in the existing system. An official connection to Cottonwood Creek Trail is mentioned as a priority in the COS Park System Master Plan. Future plans also call for an extension east to Sand Creek Trail.
