Park Hours: 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM
Amenities: Cottonwood Creek Park is a popular local hub, featuring YMCA Recreation Center with indoor pool, Xeriscape Demonstration Garden, picnic tables, playground, restrooms, 4 soccer fields, 3 softball/baseball fields, tennis courts, in-line hockey court, and disc golf course. This large community park is about 77 acres with roughly 2 miles of paved walking paths (wheelchair friendly), plus access to Cottonwood Creek Trail and a dirt trail on the opposite side of the creek.
It’s a popular destination for sports, cyclists, joggers, skateboarders, disc golf, dogs and families with strollers. It is also a favorite destination for sledding in the winter. In the summer many enjoy playing in Cottonwood Creek.
History: The installation of new artificial turf on three softball fields at Cottonwood Creek Park was completed in March 2021. The turf is a cost and water-saving measure that will save an estimated 2.8 million gallons of water annually. It will also allow the lighted sports complex to be used for other sports, like soccer, without risk of compromising field conditions.
Prior to the turf being laid, the sod from the ballfields was removed and replanted near the playground in Palmer Park, an area which was previously native grass and dirt, in summer 2020. Repurposing the sod saved the parks department $20,000 in removal and disposal fees and enhanced a popular park area.
Funding for the turf conversion was approved by voters who passed ballot measure 2B in the November 2019 election.
