Rock Island Trail Closure and Detour

May – August, 2021 – The intersection of Constitution Avenue and Paseo Road will close to all traffic to facilitate bridge maintenance work and improvements to a section of the Rock Island Trail. Detours will be in place and travelers are encouraged to avoid the area. Rock Island Trail users will be detoured two blocks around the construction zone. In addition to bridge maintenance work, safety improvements will be made to the crossing of Rock Island Trail at Paseo Road, including providing a pedestrian refuge island and narrowing the crossing distance across Paseo Road. The project is funded by PPRTA and the city’s Bike Program.

Rock Island Trail is a (mostly) concrete and asphalt bike path – round trip is approximately 12 miles – that runs east/west alongside an old railroad bed next to Constitution Ave, from the Shooks Run Trail (Weber and Jackson Streets) in the west to Powers Blvd in the east. It’s an easy ride or walk, with a gradual slope.

Note: El Paso County manages the Rock Island Regional Trail, which is 10.5 mile and runs parallel to Highway 24 between Falcon and Peyton and is part of the America the Beautiful Trail.
