Take your volunteering to the next level with Crew Leader Training! The training will kick off with a weekend-long course that empower local trail volunteers with the skills to help lead safe and effective trail and restoration projects. The Trails and Open Space Coalition is proud to continue to partner with RMFI and others to offer the 8th Annual Pikes Peak Regional Crew Leader Training.

Report park issues to El Paso County
To report an El Paso County park facility or park maintenance issue to Parks Operations, submit an online Customer Service Request through Citizen Connect. Citizen Connect allows you to keep track of the progress of your request.
Blodgett Open Space Forest Restoration Project
February 4 – March 1
Blodgett Open Space
Open space visitors can expect to see and hear machinery (grinders, chain saws and track chipper) between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. City Forestry will be thinning semi-mature Ponderosa pine and dominant Douglas-fir with the intent to create a healthier forest. This forest restoration project will be underway in Blodgett Open Space for approximately one month, depending on the weather.
Colorado Public Lands News
Colorado US Senator Michael Bennet and Congressman Joe Neguse recently introduced the Colorado Recreation & Economy (CORE) Act. The CORE Act unites 4 previously introduced bills and will protect nearly 400,000 acres of Colorado public lands, including establishing 73,000 acres of new wilderness areas! This Act joins and improves these 4 bills: The Continental Divide Recreation, Wilderness and Camp Hale Legacy Act, the San Juan Mountains Wilderness Act, the Thompson Divide Withdrawal and Protection Act, and the Curecanti National Recreation Area Boundary Establishment Act.

Be a part of making a child’s dream come true and have fun by volunteering with Kids on Bikes.
Ongoing volunteer positions, include: Bike Ambassador, Bike Mechanic,
Strider Bike Camp Assistant, Family PopCycle Ride Leader, and Mountain Bike Camp Assistant.
Palmer Park Work Day

Traverse the park while doing some good. Volunteers are needed for picking up trash and collecting dog waste. Smaller groups will be led in performing light trail maintenance and clearing trail corridor throughout the park. You must register to participate!

Kids on Bikes Summer Camps
It’s time to sign up for Kids on Bikes’ Summer Camp! Camp classes offer kids the opportunity to develop overall bicycling and mountain bike skills, see a variety of terrain, explore the local trail systems, and cultivate a love for bicycling at a young age. Proceeds from bike camps help Kids on Bikes fulfill their mission and break down barriers to bicycling all year long.
Connecting People to Parks
The Trails and Open Space Coalition is pleased to announce we have been awarded a Colorado Health Foundation Grant for our “Connecting People to Parks” project! The project aims to connect schools and neighborhoods to parks using the Midland Trail and Westside Bike Lanes.
Manitou Incline Parking
Please be advised that as of January 22, 2019 the parking lot owned by the Cog Railway is closed. The area is needed for staging equipment and materials as they begin reconstruction of the cog line. The lot will remain closed through the duration of the reconstruction of the railway, which is expected to take a couple of years.
Bear Creek Community Garden
It’s time to start thinking about gardening! Plots are now available at The Charmaine Nymann Community Garden in Bear Creek Park.
