Dixon Trail Official Grand Opening
Fri, Oct 26, 10:00 – 12:00 pm
It’s time to celebrate the official Grand Opening of the long-awaited Dixon Trail!
Festivities include a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony, special speakers, and refreshments.
Rated “difficult to extreme,” this trail to the top of Cheyenne Mountain will be popular with hardy hikers eager for challenge and adventure. The first half is open to biking, hiking and equestrians with a turnaround at the two-mile point. From that point, only hiking is allowed for the remaining two miles. Planning and construction took nearly a decade to complete with help from the Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado and Rocky Mountain Field Institute.
Garden of the Gods Trail Repairs
Colorado Springs City Council has approved shifting Trails, Parks and Open Space (TOPS) Trails dollars to the Foothills and Gateway Trails in Garden of the Gods.
The money was removed from other trail projects that were on the schedule to be completed later.
Waldo Canyon Planning–you can help!
The Waldo Canyon planning process is about to begin, a little over six years after fire and floods damaged much of the forest and destroyed most of the trail. A new website provides links to the public survey and upcoming public meetings.
For a direct link to the survey, (open until October 31) click here.
