Big news for parks and trails
Corral Bluffs Open Space
Blodgett Open Space
Lake Moraine Trail
Dixon Trail
Corral Bluffs Open Space will grow by 200+ acres. The purchase was approved unanimously by City Council after both the TOPS Working Committee and the Parks Board voted to support it.
Corral Bluffs is not yet open to the public, but guided hikes are available Sept 8th and 9th through the City: see more on our blog.
Blodgett Peak
Blodgett Open Space will expand as well. We reported on this purchase in July when it was approved by the Parks Board. The City Council approval this week is the final step in the process.
The new addition is made up of 3 parcels that will expand the the Open Space by 64 acres. TOPS will use open space dollars to finance the $775,000 purchase. More info on our blog.

The Lake Moraine Trail, previously known as “the missing link,” is nowopen, ahead of schedule and on budget. Medicine Wheel TrailAdvocates spearheaded this project, along with many volunteers and organizations. Read more here.
The Dixon Trail to the top of Cheyenne Mountain is finally complete! Thanks to many years of effort by the Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park and many volunteers–including the park’s “TrailDogs” group led by Jack Busher–thetrail will be ready for the Friends’ Cheyenne Mtn Run on October 20.

Kangaroo Coffee partners with TOSC for trails!
We are excited to announce a new partnership with our friends at Kangaroo Coffee! They’re donating to trails every time someone buys a drink served in one of their old logo cups. Their goal is to donate $1,000. More info here.

Santa Fe Trail Closure
The closure of a section of the Santa Fe Trail on the Air Force Academy will be extended two additional days next month, Sept. 4-7, 2018, rather than Sept. 4-5 as originally scheduled.
The section will still be closed this week, Aug. 27-31. It will be open for the three-day Labor Day weekend.

Celebrate National Public Lands Day with a volunteer service project! Come work alongside City of Colorado Springs staff to restore and close an illegal trail in Red Rock Canyon Open Space.

The Litter Letter Project is a 3D messaging system of letters constructed from chicken wire and rebar, filled with litter collected from local parks and trails, primarily during the kick-off week of Creek Week, Sept. 29-30.

Mountaintop Cycling Club Sanctioned with USA Cycling. Pro Cat 1 will get $100 first place, $50.00 second place and $25.00 third place.Trophies for balance bike riders 2 -5 years, 1/4 mile course. 6 -8 youth course, 9 – 18 junior cat. 1 to 2 laps, Cat 3, and Masters do 2 laps, Cat 2 riders do 3 laps, as will fat tire, single speed and Clydesdale and Athena.
Purple Pursuit Mountain Bike Race Colorado Springs, Sept 8
Registration is open for the first ever WMBA COS Purple Pursuit Mountain bike race. This is a fun course held at the United States Air Force Academy utilizing the Falcon Trail. The race is open to men and women of all skill levels.Stay up to date with race happenings by following the Purple Pursuit Race on Facebook.
The Waldo Waldo 5K Grand Finale
The 2018 Waldo Waldo 5K Grand Finale is the final year of the Waldo costume theme! If you have friends and family who have “always wanted to do it” let them know it’s now or never! Come celebrate seven awesome years and let’s make this the best one ever.
Thousands of Waldos and Wendas will take to the streets in downtown Colorado Springs, Sat, Oct 20. Waldo Waldo is the region’s most popular untimed 5K walk and fun run. Local exhibitors, music, and food trucks all add to the fun. The money raised benefits local nonprofits that support Waldo Canyon restoration.
