UPDATE January 30, 2018:
Join the conversation: Trails will be discussed Thursday, Feb 1st 6pm Cheyenne Mountain H.S. 1200 Cresta Rd.
The North Cheyenne Canon Master Plan process is anticipating visitor increases and proposing changes to parking and transportation.
Key proposals include:
- Locked gates at night
- Adding Park Police
- Paving Gold Camp Rd and making it a city road (instead of US Forest Service)
To optimize parking, the plan proposes reducing non-trail pullouts from 43 to 12. By paving and striping existing parking lots plus adding a trailhead at Daniels Pass, total parking would increase from 497 to 524 spaces.
Also under consideration: reducing two-way vehicular traffic to one-way in portions of the park and adding a multi-use lane for cyclists and pedestrians.
Shuttle service is another option.
Annual visitation is increasing at 8%/year.
