At a recent TOPS (Trails Open Space and Parks) Working Committee, staff provided an update of the Shooks Run gap on the south end of the Legacy Loop. To complete the trail, COS Parks needs an agreement with the Union Pacific to tunnel beneath the active tracks. A pipe 14 feet in diameter and 70 feet long would connect Shooks Run to the Pikes Peak Greenway at a cost of about 2 million dollars. Talks continue; funding is needed to finish the project. Also needed: a trail easement across property owned by the Lane Foundation. If all goes well and funding is found, construction could begin in 2019.
