The Administration is announcing dramatic (historically unprecedented) cuts to the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Overall, the Monuments are slated to lose over 2M acres in protected lands.
Our partners at REI, along with hundreds of other companies, hundreds of nonprofits across the country – plus millions of grassroots voices – have argued since May to protect our monuments.
From REI’s release: “This country enjoys a long, bipartisan history of protecting our spectacular natural places – the mountains, deserts, prairies, waters and forests that tens of millions of Americans from all backgrounds cherish and enjoy annually. It’s apparent those voices have fallen on deaf ears. The Administration’s decision will hurt the people who love these places and threaten the $887 billion outdoor economy with cut after cut.”
