Incline hikers are rejoicing–the Manitou Incline, the never ending staircase that climbs over 2,000 vertical feet in less than a mile, opened ahead of schedule, on November 22. This final scheduled round of repairs is the third in four years. The Incline closed in August of this year, and was scheduled to re-open at the beginning of December.
Hikers will only see the new repairs if they make it above the false summit, and on to the top. Crews stabilized old railroad ties and removed hazards like rebar spikes and gaping holes in buried pipes. They also repaired erosion damage and installed structures to make the trail more sustainable.
A re-opening ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 1 at 8 am, at the foot of the Incline.
