The Fountain Creek Regional Trail is currently closed due to storm damage near I-25 mile marker 133, or between Stratmoor Valley and Camping World. Creek bank erosion has made the trail impassable and no detour is available, so please do not proceed beyond this point. El Paso County is working to address the damage, but currently there is no time frame established for the completion of repairs. Parks staff tells us it may be a couple of months before the trail can be reopened.
The Fountain Creek Trail has had issues similar to the south end of the Pikes Peak Greenway, which was closed for two years and recently reopened. The creek gradually changed course and eroded the dirt under the trail, and the big rain we had a couple of weeks ago finished the job, and the trail literally fell into the creek. Now the County has to re-negotiate easements with the property owners in order to rebuild the trail.
