Strawberry Hill Master Plan public meeting March 8, 5 pm
Citizens are invited to attend the first in a series of public meetings to learn about and give input on the Strawberry Hill Master Plan being prepared on behalf of The Broadmoor:

The purpose of a Park Master Plan is to develop a comprehensive vision for parkland in context with its location, natural resources, and visions of the community. This vision will be a framework for the park’s use and development for the next 10 to 20 years.
2D repairs Homestead, Update on Sinton, Shooks Run.
Bear Creek Trail re-opens
This is the trail that connects to the Greenway by going past the 8th St Walmart. Be cautious near the east side of I-25 as creek protection work continues. Also, watch for flaggers stationed on the trail intermittently, directing pedestrian and bike traffic through the area.
Shooks Run Trail opening today!
Crews will be removing the blankets today (March 1) covering the new concrete trail behind the Bon Shopping Center. The new section of trail will run from Jackson St south to the existing concrete at Fontanero. More details on trail repairs and closures.
Sinton Trail repairs moving along
The Sinton Trail is still closed at Mark Dabling while 2D repairs and improvements go forward. Crews are replacing old asphalt with concrete, reconfiguring the bridge underpass, and adding a spur trail to the pond.

Homestead Trail gets a Facelift
Thanks to 2D funding, City crews are working on the Homestead Trail between S. Carefree and near N. Carefree. Work includes a 5-foot sidewalk connection to the playground in Homestead Park and to the neighborhood.
Come hear from the Luis Benitez, Director of CO Outdoor Recreation Industry Office, about the State of the industry from a statewide perspective, and from local and regional leaders who will report on successes, challenges and opportunities for the future.

5th Annual Sustainnovate Conference and Expo: Water in the West

Join us for an exciting day to learn, connect and act on the topic of water, our most precious natural resource. We will have experts from across the state to address topics such as climate change and Colorado water, recreation, hydraulic fracturing and drinking water, tribal water law and Standing Rock, Colorado water plan, the energy-water nexus, water contamination and Venetucci Farm, and water conservation practices.
Lunch will be provided to registered participants by UCCS Food Next Door. There will be a Sustainabrew Hoppy Hour and local whiskey tasting and expo from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Manitou Monsters Mountain Bike Team is offering a Wilderness First Aid course as our annual fund raiser on April 7th and 8th at Manitou Middle School.This is 16-hour advanced wilderness first aid training.
2 day program for a total of 16 hours.
Friday from 6pm to 10pm and Saturday8am to 7pm.
Cost is $125.00 per person for the Wilderness First Aid Only.
Cost is $140.00 per person for the Wilderness First Aid and Adult CPR and AED.
Cost is $35.00 per person for Adult CPR and AED. Saturday7pm to 8pm
A $25.00 deposit is required to hold your spot and the balance is due at the door.
Multiple Major cycling events in Colorado Springs this summer.
Colorado Classic–Professional Racing Aug 10 – 13
Professional bicycle racing will return to the Centennial State as the inaugural Colorado Classic rolls through Colorado Springs, Breckenridge and Denver for four exciting and entertaining days this summer.
From August 10 to 13, starting in Colorado Springs, Olympic City USA, a world-class and international field of professional, male cyclists will race more than 300 miles in multiple, fan-friendly circuits, combining with each stage starting and finishing in the same location. The Colorado Classic will also feature two days of professional women’s cycling, beginning in Colorado Springs on August 10th and concluding the following night with a women’s-only event under the lights in Denver.
One of the most prestigious cycling events for amateur riders will come to Colorado this summer, and the exciting final stage and finish will take place in Colorado Springs,hosted by the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation.
Mavic Haute Route Rockies 2017 will feature seven timed, ranked and fully-supported stages from Saturday, June 24 to Friday, June 30.
Join over 1,000 runners competing in the 2017 American Discovery Trail Races Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and Kids 1K. The scenic course along paved and dirt trails is about as fast and flat as you can find in Colorado. All proceeds directly benefit local trails and local non-profits dedicated to trail stewardship and community running events in Colorado Springs.

Boston marathon qualified point-to-point course through the United States Air Force Academy.
The half marathon, 10K, and Kids Races will start and finish at America the Beautiful Park in downtown Colorado Springs.

The COS Office of Sustainability established office space in one of two city-owned, Victorian style houses located in the Middle Shooks Run neighborhood (704 E. Boulder Street). The other house, located at 702 E. Boulder Street, houses sustainability focused non-profit organizations to co-locate with each other and the COS Office of Sustainability. Collectively, these two houses are referred to as the Sustainacenter.
