Do you enjoy walking in your neighborhood or around the community? Are you energized by connecting with other people? COS Moves is an innovative, fun and flexible walking program for people of all abilities and interests to invest in making Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region thrive. The simple act of walking together where we live, work, learn and play creates whole health outcomes. To do this, we need walking trip leaders [=you!] willing to encourage and support others to walk. It’s an authentically rewarding experience for you and the people you walk with.
COS Moves
Volunteer Walking Trip Leaders provide opportunities to make walking and whole health a priority and offer a unique opportunity to build community in the process! By hosting walks, volunteer trip leaders invest in changes that benefit not only the health of those walking but for our community as a whole. Deep social connections are a natural result of walking with the an established group of people, so Trip Leaders get the double benefit of creating and enjoying.
What to expect:
Volunteer Walking Trip Leaders commit to leading at least 2 to 3 walks each month for at least the next six months. Walks can range from 30 to 120 minutes, moving together at a conversational pace.  COS Moves will support you with training, creating routes, outreach to recruit participants and more. Trip Leaders can choose to lead walks that are strictly for the purpose of walking, while others may choose to organize walks around a topic of discussion or to highlight something of interest in the community. You’ll have the option of organizing walks in places of your choosing or, if it’s more comfortable, we can set you up to lead some predetermined walks where COS Moves hopes to encourage more people to walk and connect with neighbors.
Volunteer Walking Trip Leaders need to complete a 90 minute training on how to lead walks and other logistics. Upcoming training times:
Thursday, October 8: 6:00 – 7:30 pm at the Mountain Metro Transit Admin Office at 1015 Transit Dr.
Friday, October 9: 9:30 – 11:00 am at the Downtown YMCA at 207 N. Nevada
Please call 329-7233 to register for a training or to ask questions. Feel free to pass along the invitation as you see fit!
