Closures/Detours

October 17, 2006

The Cosmix team will institute their detour around Bijou and Colorado as of Tuesday, October 24th. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be directed to use Cimino, Colorado Ave, and Sierra Madre from the north side of America the Beautiful Park to the north side of Monument Valley Park..

September 12, 2006

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 12, 2006) – Over the weekend, Rockrimmon Constructors announced the southbound Bijou on-ramp would close tonight, September 12.  The closure has been pushed out to Monday, September 18 at 8:30 p.m. to accommodate additional public outreach efforts.  This is the first step in reconstructing the Bijou interchange, which is scheduled to close on January 2, 2007.  The early closure of the ramp will also allow crews to begin building a temporary, southbound off-ramp onto Pikes Peak Avenue , providing access into downtown when the interchange closes in January. The closure of the southbound on-ramp to I-25 will last approximately one year.

A new closure for tonight will be the Pikes Peak Greenway trail along Monument Creek in the Nevada / Rockrimmon area.  The trail will close from 7 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. while crews demolish the southbound I-25 bridge over Monument Creek.  The trail closure was chosen for tonight because pedestrian and cyclist usage significantly drops overnight.  Flaggers will be on hand all night to direct pedestrians and cyclists to Mark Dabling Boulevard to bypass the demolition activities (detour graphic on next page).
