Other Meetings of Interest

Gold Camp Road. The USDA Forest Service has identified its preferred alternative for Gold Camp Road. Its preferred alternative (Alt. E) is to re-open Tunnel #3 and open the road to motorized use with a one-way pattern from north to south. Additional trails and trailheads would be built. Hikers and cyclists would be able to use the road in both directions. This is not a final decision and the public has the opportunity to comment until Mar. 15. Public meetings are:

1. February 10, 2005 - 9:30 a.m. Colorado Springs Parks Board will conduct a public hearing on Gold Camp Road as part of their process in developing a position to recommend to City Council. The meeting is at City Hall.

2. February 15, 2005 - 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Mountain High School. Forest Service Open House.

Candidates' Forum March 2, 2005 - 7:00 p.m. Colorado Springs Senior Center

The Trails and Open Space Coalition is hosting a Colorado Springs City Council Candidates’ Forum on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, 7:00 P.M. at the Colorado Springs Senior Center, 1514 North Hancock Avenue. The forum is open to the public and members of the Trails and Open Space Coalition.

The candidates will be asked to provide their positions on trails, bikeways, open space, funding, Gold Camp Road, alternative modes of transportation and, if they use trails or open space, how do they use them. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 633-6884.

Colorado Springs

Calendar

City Council meets in formal session at 1:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Council meets in Council Chambers on the third floor of the new City Hall, 107 North Nevada Avenue. Informal Council meetings are held at 1 p.m. on Mondays preceding formal Council days. All City Council meetings are open to the public, except portions of meetings in which legal, land acquisition, or personnel matters are discussed. Agenda.

The Planning Commission has final agency authority on numerous land use applications as well as acting in an advisory capacity to City Council on various other land use matters. To contact the commission, email ccb@ci.colospgs.co.us. Meetings are monthly, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 A.M. to 5 P.M. in City Council Chambers.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is an advisory body to the City Council on parks and recreation resources within the City, The Board holds a public meeting monthly to review matters pertaining to the planning, development, improvement, beautification, equipping and maintaining the public parks, playgrounds, programs, urban forest, recreation facilities and resources including golf courses and center street parkings. To contact the board, send email ccb@ci.colospgs.co.us. Meetings are the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department, 1401 Recreation Way.

The TOPS Working Committee is the hands-on citizens' group that identifies open space parcels worthy of preservation and prioritizes trails and parks projects for funding. It is a recommending body to the City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. All TOPS-funded projects start with the TOPS Working Committee. It meets generally on the second Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and the forth Wednesday at 7:30 a.m. at the Parks and Recreation Department, 1401 Recreation Way.

El Paso County

The Board of County Commissioners meets Mondays and Thursdays, except legal holidays (Thursdays only during July and August) at the Hearing Room, County Office Building 27 East Vermijo Avenue, 3rd Floor Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903-2208.

The Planning Commission is advisory to the Board of County Commissioners on most land use requests. Exceptions, where the request is not forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners, are Amendments to the County Master Plan and Location Approvals. The Planning Commission meets on the third Tuesday of each month and, if the agenda warrants, the meeting is concluded on the fourth Tuesday of the month. In addition to the monthly meeting(s), members are encouraged to visit the sites and review written Comments prior to each meeting. The agenda for the current month is available on the Thursday prior to the first meeting. Meetings are normally held in the Hearing Room, Third Floor, County Office Building, 27 East Vermijo, Colorado Springs, Colorado. They begin at 9:00 a.m., with a lunch break at an appropriate place on the agenda.

The Parks Advisory Board is the advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners in matters involving policy and philosophy, related to the County Parks Department operations and activities. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at the Hearing Room, County Office Building 27 East Vermijo Avenue, 3rd Floor Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903-2208.
