Updated November 8, 2004

Red Rock Canyon opened without fanfare on October 29. Four miles of trails are available for use out of the 17 miles of planned trails. An unpaved trailhead with a port-a-let is available off Hwy. 24 at the end of High Street. A map of what is available for use is posted at the trailhead along with the master plan map. Please do not venture past signs that say 'Do not go beyond this sign." New trails will be available as volunteers and funding permit.

Updated June 30, 2004

The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department approved the proposed master plan for Red Rock Canyon at its June 17 meeting. The plan includes 17 miles of trail, multiple trailheads, a mountain bike free ride area, and a dogs off leash area. The Parks Department hopes to open the open space to the public late August or early September.

Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado plans a workday in Red Rock Canyon on August 28 and 29. Please join TOSC and others in helping build trails in this great new open space. Click here for more info and to register.

The Colorado Springs Parks Department also approved funds to lease Manitou Springs Section 16 for the coming year. The lease has been paid by El Paso County Parks in previous years but budget shortfalls precluded them coming up with the $9,600 required. Colorado Springs hopes to purchase the property from the State Land Board once the Doug Bruce lawsuit over the TOPS Extension is settled.
