General Hiking Info for Colorado Springs & Pikes Peak Regions

Tips, information and links for hiking in the Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak regions.

Trail Etiquette

Respect other users, expect other users.

Be friendly and courteous.

Share the trail. Ride, walk or run on the right, pass on the left.

Stay on the trail. Creating your own trail or cutting switchbacks creates erosion, damages habitat and causes new trails which can't be maintained.

Dogs on Leash

Need a few Good Reasons to Leash Your Dog?

Here They Are, provided by the American Dog Owners Association.

Leashes protect dogs from becoming lost and from regional hazards such as porcupines, mountain lions, bears, coyotes, snakes, other dogs and sick, injured, or rabid animals.

The Pikes Peak Humane Society will enforce leash laws rails on trails and in Open Spaces and Parks by ticketing the owners, when posted leash laws are abused.

Trailhead Security and Thefts

It's happening all across the nation. You come back to your car after a great ride or hike and your window is smashed and your wallet stolen. It's happened right here at Waldo Canyon, Blodgett Peak Open Space and Palmer Park. What's a person to do? Here are some ideas.
