Austin Bluffs Open Space

Austin Bluffs Open Space

This nearly 500-acre parcel includes land from the formerly designated University Park Open Space, Pulpit Rock Park and Austin Bluffs Park. From winding paved greenways to difficult single-track trails, Austin Bluffs Open Space offers spectacular trails and views mixed with wildlife in the heart of Colorado Springs. Once part of the Houck Estate, this was one of the earliest open spaces preserved through the City’s TOPS Program.

Austin Bluffs Open Space offers a buffer for the surrounding communities, habitat for wildlife, as well as trails, vistas and incredible rock formations.

Enter the University Park development on University Park Blvd off N Academy. Head south on Rockhurst at the roundabout to the trailhead at the end of the road (near the radio towers). Cross the street to the trail.

To access the Pulpit Rock area, take Nevada north past University Village Shopping Center on the left and Harley Davidson on the right. Park at the trailhead adjacent to the Utilities Substation (on the right). Pulpit Rock is a short climb, not too difficult, but there are significant vertical drops and some scrambling required to get to the top.
